Natalia A. Perez is a Ph.D. student in Critical and Comparative Studies of Music at the University of Virginia. Her work looks at the relationship between bodies, movement, and sound. She’s previously researched this through ballet on Broadway, but is now expanding into un-choreographed movement, especially as it relates to sports and fitness. She also works as a personal trainer and holds a variety of training and group exercise certifications. In this episode, we discuss the relationship between jazz and basketball, songs that get us hype to lift (or to present our work at conferences), and gym grunting.
